Happy February 29th, you all! We have been lucky enough to survive the past four years, and as a reward, we get one whole extra day on the calendar to enjoy. I've always had some affection for Leap Day. It's used as a plot device in my favorite musical, The Pirates of Penzance. A young former pirate thought he was uncomplicatedly 21 years old, but when the Pirate King tells him he was born on a Leap Day, he gets a big kick out of it. The problem arose when he found out he was technically only five and a quarter, and because he swore to be a pirate until his 21st year, he must return to the band of pirates. But it all worked out in the end, and the Leap Day only served as a minor blockage to his happiness. If you find Leap Year birthdays to be a most ingenious paradox, you should leap into these frog memes.
