Back in the day, it was practically a sin to even think about using up your PTO or daring to call in sick. The workforce used to be caught up in this whole grind mentality that just chewed people up and spat them out. And even though things are slowly changing, there's sometimes still a gap between generations when it comes to work-life balance. Some folks out there still cling to the idea that burning yourself out is some kind of badge of honor. And you know what's the absolute worst? When that kind of mindset infects your boss.
So, let me tell you about this one boss who clearly hadn't got the memo. This poor employee, working away in the food service industry, ended up catching a nasty case of the stomach flu. To most folks, that's a pretty solid reason to call in sick, right? But not to this boss. Apparently, having the stomach flu wasn't a good enough excuse, especially when there was nobody to cover the poor employee's shift.
