At some businesses, the work-from-home dream is coming to a close.
There was a time not so long ago when we all had to stay indoors for a good year or two. Many people lost their jobs, while others pivoted to working remotely. It turns out that remote work is a blessing for everyone involved. Employees love basically everything about it. You can work in your sweatpants, from your nice cozy bed or couch, while eating your snacks and listening to music. It also turns out that many people are more productive this way: fewer coworkers to distract you and less time spent commuting to and from the office. While some bosses doubted that their employees were getting much work done, the opposite is true.
Although some businesses have permanently decided on remote work positions or hybrid positions that bring employees to the office periodically, not every CEO is sold on the idea. Some higher-ups think that if they can't track and quantify every minute of every employee's day, they're going to face dire consequences.
This worker, @Jauwnio, shared their own story of what happened when a company hired them to work remotely, then suddenly changed their minds. It's a fascinating tale that garnered more than 14 million views on Twitter (aka X). You can check out the full thread, as well as the supportive commenters who added their thoughts.
