When you are a single parent in the dating world, the rules have changed since having been in the dating world childless. It isn't all about you anymore—when you're dating someone as a parent, you can't just find someone good for you, you also have to find someone good for your child. It adds a whole different level of difficulty to dating.
The most obvious rule about dating a single parent is that their kid always comes first. Duh. A second rule, and maybe one that isn't as obvious (but should be), is that a single parent isn't going to stand for your tomfoolery and look past some red flags as easily as they did before. One slip up and you are immediately out.
This mom showed a perfect example of that. She was dating this man for around 6 months when he pulled his first and last red flag on her. She had set a very hard boundary with him explaining that her daughter's “blankie” was off limits. That her daughter did not have to share her blankie if she didn't want to. What's the first thing he does when a situation comes about with the blankie? He snatches it from her child and does the opposite of what she told him. He very directly disrespected the boundary that she set.
He thought he would get away with it, but I think not macho dad! She just laughed in his face and told that boy “bye!” Now her baby is 20 years old and still loves her blanie.
