As somebody who has never been endowed with the ability to grow significant facial hair, I've always wondered about how strange it must feel to grow a beard. It's kind of wild how evolution decided to do away with a great majority of the hair we could grow but kept all this stuff from the neck up, and even then it's often gender specific.
I'll never forget returning home for the holidays during college and seeing which of my old high school classmates were haunting the local bars with freshly sprouted beards, as if to prove their newfound manhood. Even all these years later, when male friends and acquaintances let it grow for the first time it feels like a rite of passage. It's no surprise that this is reflected in some of the memes about facial hair. It can be a lot of upkeep, so it's important to have humor with it.
