A gentle alien gets stranded on Earth and hobbles around until it befriends a young human living in the suburbs. The moment they meet is staggeringly realistic, as they both are completely freaked out, but ultimately intrigued by each other's strangeness. The sweeping cinematography coupled with the fact that the film never leaves the confines of the suburban neighborhood in which it is set, gives E.T. the perfect American 80s vibe that was easy to fall in love with. E.T. is that film that I could watch countless times, and never get sick of, as Spielberg created such an intimate setting. Elliot's cluttered bedroom reminded me so much of my own, and the shot where E.T. is hiding in the closet amidst other toys was absolutely adorable. And the ending… I bawled my eyes out.
