Attitude is important when it comes to the workplace. Still, the workplace itself is largely responsible for your attitude when you're at work.
You can't just demand that your workers be happy and have that be the solution to what is an otherwise miserable job. Yet, one of the first things you're taught in retail is that you should always smile and "greet" "guests" as they walk in the door, setting the stage for an enjoyable experience for them during which they're more likely to fork out more cash—and more likely to treat you like a doormat.

Yeah, that whole "customer service attitude" (complete with a peppy voice) that you're supposed to put on while you're at work is one of the reasons why customer service jobs are known for sucking the absolute life out of their victims.
The idea of bosses demanding that their workers "smile" is one that has been repeated through pop culture and shared stories for decades. So, while the premise of this story is nothing new, it became a hot topic of conversation when this worker shared the comments their supervisor had made toward their coworker, reprimanding them for not looking happy. Just keep in mind that the next time your boss comes after you for only wearing 15 pieces of flair, you've got plenty of good company.
