Have you heard of the growing trend of a sleep divorce? Cameron Diaz announced her feelings on married couples sleeping apart and she's a huge proponent of it. It might be an understatement to say that people have strong feelings about this topic. Everyone always assumes that once you're in a serious relationship you need to sleep in the same bed. It might not have been that way 70+ years ago, but today it's considered the norm in most places. Instead this should be a personal decision that's made by each individual couple. Diaz makes a fair point that it's healthy to have personal space whether that means sleeping in separate beds or bedrooms. 

There are definitely pros and cons to a sleep divorce situation. Maybe one partner snores or gets up to use the bathroom every couple hours. Maybe one partner has wonky work hours and the alarm disturbs the other. Or, maybe you just both need space and have different sleeping styles. I love the idea of normalizing this if you fit into one of the above categories. Obviously do what is right for you, but it seems like couples are onto something here. Who doesn't want to wake-up refreshed and ready for their day? It doesn't mean you need to give-up the love and intimacy of your relationship.
