When you're traveling in another country, sometimes you stumble upon street animals that could have been someone's beloved pet in your native country. Although most people see a cat or a dog as a house pet, in other countries, they sometimes run feral on the streets, sneaking through trash like the raccoons, rats, and opossums we've been taught to avoid. So whenever a traveler stumbles upon a feral dog in a new city, it's tough not to make up scenarios in your head where you tame the beast and bring them home. Hmm, perhaps that's called something– I think it's a savior's complex?
Anyways! Sometimes the savior in all of us gets satisfied by real-world stories where people do tame the street animal and just the notion of saving a creature from a destitute life surviving on scraps is enough to stoke the spark in anyone's heart. In this particular story, one woman found a scrappy little scruffball of a dog, dashing through the streets of rural Korea with a chain dragging from her neck. Boin, who later became a doggo with a one-way ticket to paradise, won the pup lottery when she met her would-be owner – a woman who came to Korea just to forage for some mushrooms, but left with a furbaby in her arms instead.
