'Looking for advice': Homeowners and their cats keep getting terrorized by random outdoor cat at 2 AM, heed the advice of online cat people

Information on the Internet is basically infinite, but (and maybe we're going out on a limb here) cat people's knowledge on the feline persuasion seems to be even more infinite. Sounds impossible, but the internet and the plethora of cat people giving and heeding information on it proves us time and time again that the limit does not exist to cat knowledge. Maybe it's the toxoplasma, but cat people could truly talk about cats forever. 

So when homeowners came to Reddit asking for advice on how to handle a menacing outdoor cat, the feline friends of the internet came through. The homeowners have cats of their own and, as cat parents, started panicking after a mean outdoor cat kept coming over and stirring up trouble. This street cat comes every night at 2AM and starts stressing out their usually well-behaved furbabies. They wake up to their cats hissing and screaming through the window at this cat and they've tried everything to keep it from getting close to their home, but nothing works. They even caught it and took it to animal control, who just released it right back by their house. They also have been asking around the neighborhood to see if it is anyone's house cat to no avail. So what can they do to keep give their own kitty children some peace and get this terrorizing street cat to peacefully leave them alone?
