'They found out she interviewed for another job': Boss forces employee to resign just because they took an interview elsewhere

There are several valid reasons for firing an employee, but this is beyond ridiculous. Employers are not within their rights to control whether or not one of their employees can get poached by another employer and recruiter. They cannot control whether or not you let that company or recruiter sit you down for an interview. Clearly, this employer thought otherwise.

They forced this Redditor's best friend, who had been at the company for two years, to resign simply because they caught wind that she sat down for an interview at another library. First of all, as several folks in the comments section pointed out, they should not be able to force anyone to resign (let them fire you so you can collect unemployment at the very least!). Furthermore, this employer hadn't even received an offer yet! What happens if they have resigned and they get rejected from this other opportunity? Not only will the employee be unemployed, but also the employer will have completely wasted their time firing someone and undergoing a whole new hiring process for no good reason.
