‘You wrecked my fence’: Quarry refuses to compensate farmer $60,000 for his fence, end up paying one million dollars in damages

Farm work is not easy, although you'll often see farming painted idyllically as a laid-back lifestyle that everyone should aspire to. As shared by OP, his brother-in-law (Let's call him Bob) was growing avocados on his ranch, when a portion of it was destroyed by a wildfire… or at least, that is what he first believed, until it became apparent that it was due to an electrical line that was blown over by tough winds. The line landed on his fence, causing a fire, and a lot of damage in the process…

'Bob' decided to replace his fence and replant, but the quarry who owned the power lines refused to settle privately for the amount of 60k, instead dragging Bob to court, under the assumption they would win.
