There's a lot of unpaid labor that goes into the job interview process. As a prospective employee, you need to update your resume, write cover letters, reach out to countless companies, make cold calls, and finally (if you're lucky) schedule an interview– and that's all before you even have your foot through the front door of the office. Usually when companies are looking for workers, they're receptive and aware of the time it takes to get to the interview process, so usually interviewers aren't likely to leave you high and dry once you have an appointment scheduled… Usually.
By that point, you've slaved over several rounds of resume review, had emails back-and-fourth, and you found yourself finally sitting in the waiting room for your dream job, palms sweaty with anticipation.
