Community is essential, serving to lift up and better the existence of the individual through the support of the group through mutual aid and assistance.
Of course, there's an implication of trust involved when it comes to building community. The individuals involved need to exhibit a certain amount of altruism for mutualism to exist. Take, for example, two neighbors who have established trust and understanding. Rather than asking someone else to come and take care of their house while they're out of town, it's easier to ask this neighbor to keep a watchful eye on things.
For this reason, this guy is almost as bad as his lying neighbor for his act of petty revenge, which betrayed the trust that the neighbor had placed in him. Who would be willing to let someone look after their house if they had knowingly caused significant damage to that person's vehicle and lied about it to their face? If I accidentally drove my car into my neighbor's, you can bet that I'd never leave that neighbor to be solely responsible for my house… Not that I'd ever refuse to own up to damaging my neighbor's vehicle in the first place.
You would think, in this case, since his neighbor was so willingly capable of continuing to trust him, that maybe the neighbor was telling the truth and didn't cause the damage. The chances must be pretty good that it might have been a visitor with a similar vehicle who had caused the damage in that case—if not, then even a random person with a winch on the front of their vehicle turning around in the neighbor's driveway.
Still, this makes for a great story of revenge, which sees this neighbor "meating" their match in terms of dishonest, petty behavior. Did the neighbor commit the crime they're accused of? Who knows. Read the original story below and form your own opinion.
