Trekkies are the type of die-hard, loyal fans you will find in few franchises. Star Trek is literally on the verge of passing Star Wars in popularity… don't believe me? Look it up. Science fiction is BACK, baby! Remember back when it wasn't cool to be a nerd? Because I sure do. Showing up to school wearing a Trekkie t-shirt got me a lot of snide comments and eye-rolls. I didn't care then, and I don't care now. Star Trek will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Star Trek is actually the longest-running sci-fi franchise. It's been through ups in popularity, it's been through downs… Star Trek has seen it all. But it used to be pretty far behind Star Wars since the cinematic upstart showed up in 1978. Don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars, too. But there is just something about Star Trek that will, in my eyes, never change. Call it fate, or whatever you want, but our fates were destined to cross paths.
