Well, I guess that's not that much of a hot take these days, but when I was young, during the early '90s, being labeled a nerd was pretty much the worst thing that could happen to you. not only did people laugh at anything you say and pick on you at any opportunity, but when you got home and opened the TV to try and relax, you would see your kind depicted in the most unflattering way. Nerds were the butt of at least 50% of all comedy on TV. Whether it was Steve Urkel, Carlton Banks, "Screech", Milhouse, or Bud Bundy, the message was loud and clear - "Stop being a nerd, nerd!"
