We know all too well at this point that job postings can misrepresent aspects of a position, but we're not sure we've seen someone go through the entire hiring process and learn just how different her responsibilities would be after the fact… until now.
This candidate went through multiple rounds of interviews thinking she was up for an "assistant" position. She was content with the amount of work and responsibilities that were laid out for her throughout the hiring process. However, once she finally negotiated her salary and a start date, HR informed her that this was no "assistant" position. She would be the director of the communications department.
You would think that this would be something her boss would have mentioned at some point during the hiring process, but that isn't what happened here. Now, the Redditor in question feels that the whole mixup was carefully planned so that she would accept the pay of an "assistant" position while also being pressured into accepting the responsibilities of a communications director. Pretty vicious hiring, don't you think?
If this is, in fact, true, there still shouldn't be anything stopping the Redditor from going back to HR and negotiating a higher salary. Another alternative is to accept the position, update her resume, and immediately start looking for similar positions with fair pay. When life serves you lemons, you gotta make that lemonade, right?
