Breakups are almost always awkward, and almost never amicable. There is always one person that likes the other person a little bit more, and it is usually not the person doing the breaking up. We all like to give the, 'it's not you, it's me' speech, or if you feel that's getting old, you can always go with, 'I'm just not looking for a relationship right now', both of which are probably lies. In fact, we adhere to being honest during breakups. If you're not romantically interested, save the person 8 months of wondering, and just tell them. Of course, there is such a thing as being 'too honest', as you will find below. There is a fine line between tactfully breaking up with someone, to being completely rude and saying necessary hurtful things.
