“My corporate jobs attempt at Halloween festivities. job is offering a full paid day off for anyone that can guess closest to the number of candy in the jar. I hate work as much as you, so help me out with a good guess” Posted by u/Inside_Assumption_87

Redditors came together to offer plenty of good advice, and some pretty legit-seeming math. One mad lad even simulated a 3D model of the jar based on OP's photo and counted the virtual candy corn pieces.

  • “Bro I hope someone was doing this simulation on company time. Haha” said u/BillyWilly006900.

“The idea of compute time on a super computer cluster being used to calculate the number of candy corns in a jar to win an anonymous guy on the internet an office competition amuses me more than it should” said u/SurroundWise6889.

“Better yet, buy a jar and candy corn and swap it out after counting the exact amount in your jar.” said u/madaman13.

“I'm sure they pre-counted it. So make sure you spread doubt in the legitimacy of the pre-count among your coworkers. Demand that there be a second count from a third party.” said u/blendedfarley.

“You just need two swaps. Swap the real one with your decoy, count the candy in it, then swap it back.” said u/Quinscuit.

    “Galaxy brain here” said u/Motor_Raspberry_2150.

“Go find a jar that looks just like this, go buy some candy corn, and switch the jars.. then go home, count and switch them back..3 cents says there's a golf ball in the center of that jar to fuck with people..” said u/mysticalfruit.

“Dude just did a computer simulation of this and came to 113. Great math!!” said u/Boltsnouns, referencing u/pke1029's model of the candy jar.

“No, that would be organized labor. Management can’t allow that.” said u/Secondary123098.

“You aren’t allowed to discuss your candy corn guess with other employees. - Management” said u/DanEricsson.

“I'm not lying, this is how I once won a small award in an internet forum. After I told about how I came up with that people couldn't believe it lmao…to clarify it was a jar with pennies in it and you had to guess how much money in it. I averaged the guesses and the real answer was somewhere in the hundreds of euros (can't remember the exact amount), and I got the closest answer with about a 1-2 euro error. This was the only time I ever used this method and actually worked so I guess I will recommend it” said u/Emitex.

“This is a totally valid and effective way to get a answer like this. It's called ‘wisdom of the crowd.’” said u/Comprehensive-Fun47.
