Remember YouTube Rewind? Remember when it was the cultural event of December? The Avengers Endgame of annual internet videos? Then 2018 happened, the Will Smith year, and Rewind crashed so hard we could still feel the seismic aftershocks. Rewind became so disliked that YouTube basically threw it into Mount Doom and pretended it never existed.
Fast forward to 2025 and YouTube has decided to try again, but in a much safer, much more familiar, heavily Wrapped shaped format. Introducing YouTube Recap. Your personalized year, presented as a set of pretty cards that reveal your top creators, your niche obsessions, your deep dives, your personality type, and the exact moment you fell into that three week rabbit hole about custom mechanical keyboards. It is Spotify Wrapped but for the thing you actually spend most of your waking hours on.
Recap is rolling out worldwide this week and lives under the You tab or right on your homepage. If you watch a lot of music, you also get a mini Wrapped inside your Recap, plus a whole separate YouTube Music Recap because apparently one identity crisis per year is not enough.
It is honestly wild. Rewind used to be one big collective cultural mirror. Recap is the opposite. It is a perfectly distilled look at your chaos. Your tastes. Your year. And honestly, in this economy, maybe that is the kinder option. No more fighting over whether ASMR slime videos deserved more screen time. Just you, your stats, and a gentle reminder that yes, you really did watch forty hours of Labubu blind box unboxings in May.
