I hate rumors. I don't normally post about them, I don't normally care about them, and I definitely don't normally believe them. But this time? I don't care. I want this. I need this. I have been waiting seven long years for a next-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2, and if there's even a whiff of this finally happening, I'm all in.
So, here's the word on the digital street: according to reliable insider Nate the Hate, Rockstar might finally be giving RDR2 the glow-up it deserves later this fall. The rumor says it's coming to the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and even the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. And honestly, if this is true? My cowboy hat is already packed.
Let's be real: Red Dead Redemption 2 is still one of the most stunning games ever made, no arguments there. But the console versions? They're stuck in 2018, locked at 30fps, and running on backwards compatibility like some old-timey saloon piano player. It's been seven years - SEVEN! - and Rockstar has been too busy counting GTA V money to give Arthur Morgan the fresh coat of paint he deserves. Meanwhile, I've been sitting here on my couch, dreaming of riding through those snowy peaks and dusty plains at a buttery-smooth 60fps.
If this next-gen patch is real, it should bring 60fps, boosted resolution, and all those PC-level graphical goodies we've been begging for. I'm talking ultra settings, crisper textures, and maybe, just maybe - the chance to play this game the way it always deserved to be played. Heck, even the Switch 2 version (if it's real) might give us something that's not just a blurry slideshow.
Of course, this is all still just rumors. We don't have an official word from Rockstar yet. And after everything we've been through (The 'Definitive' Edition, anyone?), I'm trying really hard not to get burned again. But I can't help it - my inner cowboy is already getting misty-eyed at the thought of finally seeing Arthur's world in all its next-gen glory.
So Rockstar, if you're listening? Just take my money already. I'm ready to saddle up and ride into the sunset one more time - this time at 60 glorious frames per second.
